The Honorable Claudine Schneider, a Republican, United States Representative from Rhode Island, argues in favor of the National Endowment for the Arts(NEA) program. The NEA is controversial because of the artists it chooses to fund. While others feel that it needs to end, Schneider states how it has helped society. Some want the NEA to stop because they believe that some of the art is too graphic and that the taxpayers money, which helps fund the NEA, should go to other things like welfare or the deficit. Schneider argues that art is a form of speech which is protected by the First Amendment.

proves her point very accurately. She defines the terms clearly and doesn’t present her argument in a confusing manner. Schneider is fair in that she supports the NEA in a calm manner and doesn’t attack the opposing side.
I strongly agree with Schneider on the controversy over the NEA. I believe that art is an important part of society and that it reflects society. Some may think the art is vulgar or graphic, but that is how society is. Society is harsh and changes all the time like art. Society can also be vulgar and graphic by the way that people talk or act. I agree with Schneider that art is a form of speech and that it can’t be taken away. Schneider impressed me by providing numbers in her presentation.
