A Tale Of Two Cities: Love Or Hate

Always there will be people who love and people who hate. In this conflict between love and hate only one can emerge victorious. In the book A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens many characters have the qualities of love or hate. As these characters clash during a bloody period of seemingly all hate, love somehow finds a way to win. Thus showing love overcoming the evil possessed by so many people. Yet with this victory comes costs, so many showing that hate is still a strong competitor.

to show us. That love is always stronger than hate. Miss Pross wins the fight after Madame Defage pulls out a gun, and somehow the gun goes off killing Defage. Pross who loves Lucie dearly and is always helping her in anyway possible. “ …and she softly laid the patient on a sofa, and tended her with great skill and gentleness: calling her “my precious!” and “my bird!” and spreading her golden hair aside over her shoulders with great pride and care.” Pg. 23 And because of this love she is the victor over Madame Defage. Meanwhile Madame Defage is a perfect example of hate. She cares for nothing but the killing of aristocrats and innocent people alike. In a few basic words she is a violent murderous madwoman. This hate causes her death for if she hadn’t been involved in a hateful out-of-control revolution she would have never even met Miss Pross.
