To prepare for possible future job placement and to apply information learned from this course, we were asked to contact a social service agency of our choice and arrange an in person information gathering interview. I chose the Children's Bureau/The Department of Child Services. The Children’s Bureau focuses on improving the lives of children and families through programs that reduce child abuse and neglect, increase the number of adoptions, and strengthen foster care. state of Indiana. A lady by the name of Kaitlyn Smarelli was so kind to allow me to schedule an interview with her. Kaitlyn is the mother of a child in my classroom, she has been employed with DCPS since 2010. Kaitlyn explained that the Children’s Bureau’s and DPCS has highly-trained case managers that identify and address issues that tear families apart. They do so in different ways:

• Prevent - Empower families with professional support and community resources to eliminate issues that lead to entry into the child welfare system.

•Intervene - Work with families who find themselves in the “system” to accomplish the required goals to keep their children. Protect - Recruit and strengthen foster and adoptive homes.

• Support - Mentor older youth transitioning from foster care to independent living.
