Heart disease has slowly been on the rise, like a silent killer in the night. Throughout the years I have watched heart disease destroy my family and others as well. The bystander is now been proved to be the most critical link between the victim and the hospital. As a result of the increase, there is now something that can help save lives when our loved ones go into cardiac arrest and that amazing machine is called, the Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

first step of the AED is to turn on the machine. The second step is apply the AED pads to the bare chest of the victim, if the victim is wet make sure to dry the skin as much as possible and remove and wipe all medication patches before applying the AED pads. Also never place the AED pads over a pacemaker or a defibrillator. After the pads are applied, press the start button and wait for the shock to be analyzed and deliver a shock if indicated.

Using an Automated External Defibrillator is not enough; CPR is still a needed source for survival. CPR should be directly in effect immediately after the AED for two minutes. If the victim is still not responding, check the victim, repeat the AED and shock, and continue CPR.
