Part 1 Summary

Step One:

A man from the country tries to gain entrance through a gate where a gatekeeper stops him.

Step Two:

A gatekeeper stands by the gate, where he is guarding the law. From the country a man approaches trying to enter through the gate. The gatekeeper denies the man from the country access. He is then told he can enter at his own risk, but the gatekeeper explains he is powerful. He decides not to enter where he is then provided with a stool, where he stays for many years. After noticing that no one else tries entering he asks why. The gatekeeper tells him because this entrance was only assigned to you.
