The public’s desire for success dominated American life which led some people to do anything to gain personal achievement. Wilder teaches the lesson of what it means to tell the truth, have integrity, and respect towards others. He could have wanted to demonstrate this to society because of what opportunism did in the world of the film making industry. For example, employees of the studios were tossed aside when the big studios no longer needed them because the studio executives sought out the talent that would make them the most money. Likewise, until laws were put into place for the child actors, the studios took advantage of children and manipulated them for their own profit, regardless of their working conditions.
