one of Elena's core belief about the world is "nobody can understand me." With this core belief, she came up with some automatic thoughts, such as "they (her family) hear what they want to hear," "they (her friends) don't listen to me," and "he (her boyfriend) thinks that my parents are stupid and ignorant." Moreover, Elena's core belief about the future is "I am destined for failure." As a consequence, her automatic thought is "if I stay with my family my whole life, I'll loose all my potential," and that "if I choose to go to college, I will be a bad daughter."

Beneath Elena' automatic thoughts, some obvious thinking errors exist as follows. Firstly, Elena has a thinking error of catastrophizing.
