84% of the world practices some type of religion. Many have various opinions and different understandings considering the subject. With religion it all comes down on what you believe, in many cases, this could be harmful. In the novel Cat’s Cradle, the author Kurt Vonnegut, writes of a man who comes across the religion Bokonism, which is based on ‘foma’; lies. McCabe and Bokonon made a religion to make a good “standard of living”. So they made a ‘harmless’ lie to make people interested in the town and want to live there. People who believed the lie didn’t pay attention to their surroundings. “But people dint have to pay as much attention to the awful truth. As the living legend of the cruel tyrant in the city and the gentle holy man in the jungle grew, so, too, did the happiness of the people grow.”(Vonnegut 174) People of San Lorenzo loved the story, they wanted to hunt down the evil man, and see the followers be hung on the hook.
