Crack is synthetic drug that is a form of cocaine. Cocaine is a stimulant that causes elevated mood, increased feelings of well-being, and increased energy and alertness. The process to convert cocaine to crack is known as “freebasing”, which is when cocaine is cooked with ammonia to create rocks, chips, or chunks to be smoked.
The smoking procedure requires the crack rocks, a straight glass tube, and steel wool. On one end of the tube, steel wool is inserted with the crack chunks on the outside of it. The average abuser of this drug over time may experience depression, lung cancer, bronchitis, auditory hallucinations, shortness of breath, or even suppressed desire for food, sex, friends, family, and social contacts.
Cocaine was used as a medicinal in drinks to give people energy. The notable “Coca-Cola” soda used to contain cocaine in the late 1800’s. This drug was also used as an anesthetic, and to prevent surfeit bleeding.
