The night started out wonderful. The mead-hall looked its best during the evening meal. Food of all sorts were scattered among the vast, wooden table. As the women brought out the many assortments of food they were captivated by the smiles of every man. The bread was freshly made and right out of the oven, the soup was piping hot but that was only the beginning. When the main dish finally arrived everyone had their beer mugs refilled and their knifes sharpened. The aroma filled the room leaving everyone’s mouth watering in anticipation. A shadow crossed my face, blocking the stars glow. A sudden rush of fear went through my body. Just when I leapt to my feet to see what was outside the door to the mead-hall opened. My jaw fell to the ground when I saw a devilish monster standing with its mouth watering. I quickly and quietly opened the near by window and crept out. Lucky for me the giant’s eyes and mine never met. I watched as it prowled the hall looking for something to eat. It snatched one man and bit off his head, still no one woke from their drunken sleep. With the taste of flesh still on its tongue it searched more to satisfy its craving. Its eyes fell upon a chubby man, who by this time, had slowly awaken. The man almost immediately saw the giant coming towards him, but was frozen with fear. And with an instant the man was gobbled up before he could scream out Grendel.
