Cyberbullying

Cyber bullying is intentional harassment of a person using social media using devices like tablet, cell phone or computer. This is a relatively new trend that needs to be effectively addressed. Teens and children are more susceptible to this undesirable social behavior.

As a student I can set an example by developing good cyber habits listed below.

- Do not open identified messages. Messages like you have won something for free and encouraging you to enter your personal information, credit card details, sensitive information like date of birth, address, and phone number must be avoided.

- Send embarrassing messages.
- Undesirable pictures and video sent
- Create fake accounts to imitate someone else.

In most cases the cyber attacker has sensitive personal information to target the victim.

Unless the victim speaks out these feelings can worsen. The victim needs to seek advice from parents, peers, friends, and school authorities. The victim needs to realize he is not alone. There are many others like him. Take a course in class or online in cyber safety. One needs how to address the bullies and confront them. Tell them to stop and report this to relevant personnel. Comfort the affected. Block the person bullying on your phone. Block his email address or social medial account. Report this account to the school administrator or to the online group moderator. Do not pass such messages to others. Schools can develop antibullying training so that student can develop these qualities.
