A little less than a year ago, a good friend of mine started babbling his mouth over some new book he had just discovered named “How to Win Friends and Influence People.” My friend, being the type of individual that always came across some new book on how to upgrade your life, continued urging me to just read at least a couple chapters of the book and let him know what I thought. A long story short, I never once gave this book a chance. I was already too busy reading all the other books I had been assigned in class, and I didn’t have the time or energy to start reading another so-called miracle book. It's a part of life that everyone, eventually, goes through some kind of disagreement with another individual. Usually, the disagreement turns from a minor issue into a larger scale argument. Many of us end up falling prey to the easy deception of becoming defensive and begin attacking the other. It's always so much more difficult to not say things that you usually end up regretting. Personally, I am a common offender of this act and start to criticize, condemn, or complain towards the individual that I am having an issue with. For an example, when my girlfriend does something towards me that upsets me, I have come to the conclusion that she is more likely not to repeat the same offense if I kindly explain what she did and how it hurt my feelings instead of trying to retaliate. Or in other cases, she will do something very nice for me, so I will take this opportunity to praise her, which in turn, causes her to want to continue those kind actions ...
