If Australians knew the serious effects that the highly toxic methyl bromide had on their lives and those of their families, under no circumstances would they allow the continued use of this lethal chemical.
Methyl bromide is an ozone destroying gaseous substance. It has caused five to ten percent of the worldwide ozone depletion which has been linked to potentially fatal conditions such as skin cancers. Even more frightening still is the fact that the annual rate of the use of methyl bromide is growing at a rate of eight percent per year, with Australia importing the largest amount of the substance.

Carbonyl sulfide may be a technically and economically viable alternative to methyl bromide for use on such pests as beetles, termites, moths and also for soil fumigation .It has already been found effective on many products and can be purchased for approximately the same price as methyl bromide .
