Death of Night

In 1933, the Jewish population of Europe stood at over nine million. Most European Jews lived in countries that Nazi Germany would occupy or influence during World War II. By 1945, the Germans and their collaborators killed nearly two out of every three European Jews as part of the Final Solution , the Nazi policy to murder the Jews of Europe. In Night by Elie Wiesel, death was something that he was afraid of. Death affects him by discovered and seeing what happened in the concentration camp.

everything would be okay. Elie's father is struggling for survival. He is becoming weak, old, tired, and knew that he wasn't going to make it to the end. He no longer had hope in surviving, and in result he was ready to give up and die. He had lost the strength to have hope in a dark and terrible experience like the Holocaust. The days were like nights, and the nights left the dregs of their darkness in their souls. Night is thus a metaphor for the way the soul was submerged in suffering, hopelessness, death, darkness of the soul, and loss of faith.
