Democracy In Ancient Greece

Under the leadership of Clisthenes, Ancient Greece achieved and practiced its crude form of democracy during 508 B. C. Under his leadership, Greeks were reinstituted or given back their citizenship, adding other individuals who have supported him and put him into power. He also created the most basic social unit in the society called "deme," which is also considered as a political unit. Through these "demes," Clisthenes appointed officers who will regulate the unit's activities, such as the reinforcement of regimental units, practice of the people's religions, as well as declaring the unit's loyalty to the polis.
