The wind gussied against his face and the rain in little bullets pelted his coat as Jack made his way to his Jeep. It is going to be a long night, he thought, as he groped through the darkness in search of his car. Finally, his hand touched the metal latch and he traced his way to the keyhole. As he frantically unlocked his car and scrambled in, he became conscience of the ominous and devouring black of the night.
Jack started the car, turned on the headlights and wipers, and began to back out of the driveway. The pale blue luminescence of the digital clock pulsed 10:40 reminding of him of his imminent engagement, he pressed harder on the pedal. He had a twenty minutes to make the fifteen ...

All of a sudden there was a sickening thud as the car hit something rather large. Shit!. I don't have time for a pathetic, dead animal! Jack slowed and pulled the car to a halt on the gravel. Turning the engine off, he sat listening to the patter of the rain in a state of total disbelief. Glancing at the dull glow of the clock which read 10:45 and leaving the headlights and wipers on, he reluctantly opened the door and got out of the car to quickly survey the damage. Almost instantly soaked, and as the fierce wind whipped across his thin frame, he shivered violently. He made his way around to the front of the car and crouched down near the mass.
He froze as he looked into the glazed eyes of a stranger, an animal of his type - a human, but an animal nonetheless. There were specks of gravel clinging to her coarse gray hair and a crimson fluid oozed from her ear. The animals mouth was partially opened and a thin stream of blood trickled ...
