Dorothy Parker
Dorothy Rothschild Parker was an American writer who wrote poems, playwrights, and short stories. Parker is most well known for her sharp wit, pessimistic attitude, and use of irony. Most of her poems were works of satire, which ridicules a situation for the purpose of bringing about change. Most critics marvel at the work of Dorothy Parker, yet others seem to find it dark and cynical. (Thurman)

she became a writer for the magazine Vanity Fair, but that ended quickly because of her crude humor. The Algonquin Round Table, referred to as the Vicious Circle by Parker (Fitzpatrick), was a board of literary writers that wanted to achieve fame and fortune through their own self-publicizing techniques. Dorothy Parker was a critical part of the board of writers that made up the Round Table. To critics, she was “the tongue heard ‘round the world”. (Reference Answers) These writers met regularly and included Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchley, Alexander Woollcott, Harold Ross, Robert Sherwood, and James Thurber. Parker found an acquaintance in Robert Benchley, and later knew that he was her friend through an act of protest when Parker was fired from Vanity Fair and Benchley resigned.
