to be together in this life so they make a pact of double suicide so they can be together in the next life. The film shows through the people and many scenes that there are values in Double Suicide.
The first duty in Double Suicide is between elder and younger siblings. The first example of duty between elder and younger siblings is shown in the beginning of the film, where Magoemon (Jihei's elder brother) is visiting Koharu at the brothel. Magoemon goes to the brothel disguising himself as a samurai. He arrives at the brothel and is greeted by the women in charge. She brings him over to Koharu who is sitting on the ground looking sad. At first Koharu does not speak a word and continues to look down, but once the conversation gets going she opens up to him. She explains her situation, and tells him that she is in love with Jihei but he is unable to redeem her. She also tells him that they planning on committing suicide together but she confesses that she is not ready to die. ...

aunt promptly declines and says that Osans husband would not be out all night at brothels if she did a better job at being a wife. She starts off and talks about Jihei's father who is her brother and that she made the promise of watching over Jihei after he passed away. She also said that after Osans father heard about the rumors that his son-in-law was trying to get money to redeem a courtesan he was furious.
