was born on August 13, 1926, on a small farm in the municipality of Mayari on the eastern tip of Cuba. His education moved him through most of the country as he went to many prestigious schools. He attended public schools, prep schools and a couple of military schools. He stood out as a brilliant leader and a great athlete and was even courted by several American baseball teams. Except armed with his anti-batista views and brilliant leadership skills he was viewed as a threat and kicked out of many schools. Patrols were launched around Santiago and Abel Santamtia and his men were backed into there building and slaughtered. Castro was finally caught and sentenced to 15 years in prison but was eventually sent to Mexico in 1955. When Fidel landed on the shores of Mexico he vowed to free his country from Batiste and his reign of terror. Fidel rallied many men to his cause, but one especially stood out among the rest, Dr. Ernesto "Che" Guavera. The young doctor had seen his share of third world countries and when he met Fidel he helped him train his men in guerrilla warfare. Fidel set up revolts in various Cuban towns and villages.
