Gay Marriage

The idea of gay marriage is frowned upon in today's society. Many people are not comfortable with this practice because it does not abide by the social standard set by society over the years. Prohibiting this concept is simply a deprivation of a person's civil rights. Legalizing gay marriage all across the country would not only open people up to a new perspective, but it would also spread equality and integrate gay culture into the nation.

According to long time gay activist Scott Bidstrup, when speaking of civil rights, the gay community are referring to matters that range from making important medical decisions for their partner to the inheritance of their partner's will. Matters like these are met with little or no resistance when the traditional, straight partnership is involved. This nation was brought up on the idea of equal rights for all citizens, so why should a person be denied of essential rights just because of their sexual preference?
Religious freedom is another important factor when it comes to the legalization of gay marriages. Under the first amendment, church and the state are separated. Which means that the government has no jurisdiction over matters dealing with a person's religious beliefs.
