When reading this Poem I had envisioned the poet describing the world that he sees, showing that it was a struggle or challenge in his eyes, because he sees a temporary world. He gets frustrated and has an inner struggle with the world and with the people around him. Then in stanza two he overcame his struggle and had a realization about the world he really lives in.

The poem’s title is “Gods Grandeur” and from this we can infer that it relates to the greatness, strength and fullness of God’s being. This is what the poet wants god to be. The poet I believe has a liking for God and wants the best for the world around him. “The world is charged with the ...

shining from shook foil.” The writer uses the words flame out. The Speaker is suggesting that the “charged” world is only temporary. He is saying that one day the lights, energy or life force will go out.

I noticed that a lot of the poem is the speaker suggesting that the world is temporary and perhaps being destroyed by the actions of people. He inserts the word “Foil” which can also mean "sword". We know that swords are shiny and have a foil like surface which over time can lose its’ shine, as a result of misuse, lack of proper care or violent use in battle. The sword has a double meaning to it. It shows a struggle within him and a sort of battle about the world. The idea of the sword is a parallel to the earth as energy gets depleted he is afraid of the idea that it will all end, “it will flame out”, that is his struggle.
