Shakespeare’s use of similes made it easier to make a better connection to Hamlet and get a better grasp on what is going through his mind. For instance the simile ” gross as earth” helps us to visualize and get an image of what Hamlet is saying. Another simile used is “graves like beds”. In this line Hamlet is referring to these “twenty thousand men” who seem to be so willing to die, it’s as if they are going to their own beds at night.
Naturally there is a lot of emotion and anger flowing through Hamlet at this point. In his outbursts he makes that anger and rage well known to the readers, and those around him of course. With Shakespeare's use of the hyperbole “ death of twenty thousand men” it shows that exaggeration Hamlet often has when he gets worked up.
