2009) I like the casual nature of his art. He seemed to capture the good times in regard to Montmartre and the Moulin Rouge but you can still see the underlying sadness of some of his subjects. I think that the sadness in some of his work is shown due to his honest portrayal of his subjects. For the simplistic nature of his work, he is able to make you look for a bigger meaning behind them. As I read more about Henri de Toulouse Lautrec, I learned that he lived his life to the fullest the only way he knew how but there was a tremendous amount of underlying sadness that he covered with alcohol.

Toulouse-Lautrec had a rough start in life. He was born into an aristocratic family and was the first born child of Comte Alphonse and Comtesse Adele de Toulouse-Lautrec.
