How old do you think you are?

In the novel, The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger, Holden Caulfeild is in a mental hospital telling us about his life and all the mad man stuff that started going on about last Christmas. He has been to four different schools and has been kicked out of all of them. Also, Holden acts way older than he should. His maturity level is that of a 30 year olds even though he was only 16 at the time. Actually, many characters in the story act way too mature for their ages. Holden, for example, drinks, smokes, plays with prostitutes, flirts with older women, and is all by himself throughout most of the story.

that he knows her son and that she can trust him when, in fact, he is lying. Then, Holden offers to buy her a drink, but she declines the offer. (Page 57) Holden was flirting, smoking, and had the desire to drink all on this one train ride.
After Holden gets to New York, he stays at the Edmont Hotel. On his way up to his room, he meets Maurice in the elevator who asks him, “Innarested in a little tail t’night?” Holden says yes without thinking and goes up to his room and gets ready. He was a little nervous. (Page 91) But once Sonny, the prostitute, got there, Holden just wanted to talk. He smoked a cigarette and offered her one several times, but she kept telling him “I don’t smoke!” (Page 94) Although in this case, Holden did not do anything with the prostitute, he still did pay for one. He also lied about his age to Maurice so that he could have Sonny come up to his room. Holden thought he could have fun with the prostitute, but he was not mature enough.
