a society where whites were viewed as superior to blacks. Having this upbringing resulted in Huck believing that it was wrong for him to, essentially, let Jim escape slavery and become a free man. Huck contemplated as to whether or not to send a letter to Ms. Watson to inform her of Jim’s location. Huck knew that not writing the letter was absolutely disgraceful in society. He also feared that his act would not only be looked down upon by society, but also by God. His fear of hell as well as knowing the social ignominy of letting Jim become a free man still did not convince him that it was the best thing to do to write the letter.
