Human Actions through God

During Dr. George speech I learned a lot about Human actions through God. The first material that I understood about George’s speech was the difference he made between two types of human action. The first of these types of these two types is instrumental good which is an action that means you’re getting something out of what you are doing. The second type is intrinsic good which is an action that means something is good for its own sake.

heater needs to be turned on.” That doesn’t really make sense. My turning on the heater only makes sense if it is done in order to do something else, namely to heat up the car. Dr. George makes sure to point out that even intrinsic actions can be instrumental, though. For example, I can visit my friend in the hospital in order to make an impression on someone else that I am a great guy. In this case, my visiting my friend is an instrumental good. Nevertheless, this action has the potential to be intrinsic in the way that turning on a car heater does not.
In my opinion the best example that he uses for an intrinsic action, as Dr. George points out, is Aristotle’s idea of true friendship. There is an intelligible point to having and being a friend. Certainly, there are instrumental benefits to friendship, but these instrumental benefits are not the essence of the friendship.
