The show has a higher level of connectedness with the real world because it bases its adventures and difficulties on the requirement of these skills. One must aspire to be more than they are in order to solve the problems faced in the show, so therefore it inspires the avid watchers of the show to be more than they are in every facet of their life. Instead of makings it viewers feel poorly about themselves like the shows that plague the networks of MTV an E, Star Trek actually makes its viewers feel like better people. This form of connection makes Star trek an immortal series.
By the constant push on the political change and reformation, Star Trek truly does go the final frontier that any show can attain.
