Hysteria In The Crucible

Hysteria is a sort of band wagon effect where when one person has something happen to them, everyone else thinks it will happen to them. Hysteria is demonstrated in Aurthur Miller’s play, The Crucible. When a group of girls are caught dancing in the forest they are accused of practicing witchcraft. As the story unfolds, the town is run mad with the talk of witchcraft.
Many people believed the girls were practicing witchcraft in the forest, and are scared of the consequences. “Now look you, child, your punishment will come in it’s time. town becomes frantic as more and more people find out that the girls were dancing in the forest, and that Betty couldn’t wake afterwards. Slowly the town goes crazy with the talk of the devil among them.
Now that the town believes the devil walks among them, they believe everyone who does something unusal is a witch. “Martha, my wife.
