escalate internally. While the other party may never know, the one practicing avoidance may find himself or herself in increasing internal distress over the matter. Even so, more collectivistic cultures may view avoidance as a proper way to maintain harmony.
Another unsuccessful reaction to conflict is demonstrated by those who display argumentative skill deficiency. These people lack the verbal skills to constructively argue, or present and defend, their viewpoint. They may even be less trustworthy because they are hesitant to offend or upset. Despite their reluctance to engage in an argument, those with this deficiency often resort to verbal and even physical aggression to express their emotions. Verbal aggression typically attacks the other's self-concept and is an incompetent form of communication.
