Julius Ceasar: Sincere or Two Faced?

The tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare is about the fall of the mighty Julius Caesar. Julius Caesar was a very ambitious political leader in Rome and his goal was to become the king of Rome. Caesar was warned that he must beware the Ides of March. The prediction came true and Caesar was assassinated, thanks to Brutus and Cassius. Brutus and Cassius both met defeat and a cowardly death. In the story, one of the most talked about topics were the speeches by Brutus and Anthony. Both speakers have great but different ways to cover up their motives for power but Anthony prevails with his speech.

Caesar, Act3, Scene2,Ln21) Brutus did not make his points clear and didn’t have evidence for his accusations. He finished his speech by scaring or by threatening people who would disagree with him. At first, this seemed to work but in the end, it was not enough to manipulate the people. Brutus failed because he did not understand the people and id not care to try to understand them.

Next one to try to win the crowd was Caesar’s greatest follower, Anthony. He did a great job in convincing the plebeians that Brutus was a traitor. He used emotion to win the crowd, which one goes “My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar.”(act3, scene 2, line 105) He began the speech by not attacking Brutus, but by praising Caesar. This worked well because he acted like he felt what the crowd felt.
