The men are fighting over a broth labeled as ‘Labor Interest’. The cartoon ‘s caption states ‘Too many cooks spoil the broth’. The division of ideas and groups of people are ruining the effects of unions and how people perceive them.
In response to Labor Union, many businesses decided to fight back. They made it very difficult to join a union or have successful strikes. Employers hired expensive lawyers, pressured politicians, and bought the local press. The newspapers were a huge impact on whether the unions were viewed as positive or negative. Businesses of course did not favor unions and with the newspapers under their power, they painted labor unions in a derogatory way.
