Hero's journey or `monomyth', is a pattern of storytelling which is argued to be used in many narratives around the world. This pattern was described by Joseph Campbell's book `The Hero with a Thousand Faces'. He also discusses his purpose is to reveal the underlying structure of the myth and to help understand why different cultures perceive a myth in different ways(Campbell). Joseph Campbell's Monomyth structure can be used to analyze Disney Channel's "The Lion King" by examining the character of Simba as he moves through Departure, Trials and Victories, and The Return. B. Refusal of the Call

1. Simba refuses to go back because he has lived in this new place for too long time where he was taught not to worry about anything (Hakuna Matata) and that everything bad happens for a reason. He is also reluctant to go back because he believes that the death of his father was his fault. He abandons Nela trying to justify to himself why he cannot face the call. 1. After some clarity, the hero is now prepared to act and face the challenge. He may go out of his own initiative or be made to go, but whatever the reason, he finally crosses the threshold and parts from his familiar world to face the world or situation he has been afraid to face before. This shows hero's commitment to the challenge and helps us further emphasize with him when things go bad or in his favor(Wikipedia).
