Lord of the Flies Journal

I feel that Lord of the Flies is one the better books I have read for summer reading throughout Junior High and High School. The reason I think it is better than most of the books we have read is because it’s a fiction survival type book. It’s not an autobiography on Frank Barker, Corrie Tin Boom, or a nonfiction book on how to read a history book. I have enjoyed reading this book so far so and I hope that I continue to enjoy it as I read through it. With the recent events, such as Jack suggesting to kill a littlun, almost killing another boy while reenacting the hunt of killing the boar, and Jack starting his own tribe and raiding Ralph’s group,

group to escape the island. The only problem is that no one is willing to listen. It is necessary for the group to be organized in order to survive.

Out of all the characters, I think I could relate to Ralph the most because I am not aggressive and assertive like Jack. Jack is more interested in being a wild savage who hunts and kills things instead of being more civilized like Ralph. While Ralph tries to make huts and establish a small society so the boys do not lose their touch with the real world, Jack antagonizes the boys into becoming savage and wild by chanting and marching in circles around the boar. The way that things are working out so far makes me sad for Ralph because he is the only one who cares about surviving.
