Shortage of lumber causes new homes extra 36,000. Due to pandemic last year sawmills discontinued labor production to prepare for the housing slump. But the slump never came and lumber wasnā€™t produced now the house market is short of lumber. With shortage of lumber it isn't just causing problems with supply for builders but it's causing the housing market to increase and also making it harder to afford.

Stopping of the sawmills from last spring set us back big time and were affected by that decision today.Sawmills were preparing for a slump since covid happened but when things started to open back up sawmills werenā€™t opening up fast enough. The downturn drove countless sawmills out of business, leaving the industry unprepared for today's surge in demand. Contractors are having problems with finding and paying for lumber so that leads to price increase on the consumers . The price boom and the shortage has caused people to go to the extreme of stealing lumber from construction sites.
Although these lumber issues are causing problems there are some positives out of the situation .Even with the lumber issues , industry executives believe that supply will catch up with demand.
