I am currently reading "Makes Me Wanna Holler", and I have had a very strong connection in the first 50 pages read alone. On page 6 of the book in chapter 2 lines 8-11 it states, "We'd also lived in Morocco and Norfolk, Virginia, and Portsmouth was to be my stepfather's last duty station before he retires after giving uncle Sam 20 years". This quote is showing that the boy was use to moving around a lot with his family, seeing as he named 3 places he moved to before living in Portsmouth. I can connect to this because as a kid I've lived in 3 different cities because of the job my father had. I was first born in Hamilton, On, then my father got ...

I can also make a connection to lines 12- 13, when he said, "I still remember how excited my brothers and I were about moving into our first real house". Seeing as how I have 2 younger brothers and a younger sister I know exactly how it feels to move to a place that you finally feel home in. moving into a place you know your going to be staying in after continuous moving around just feels safe. You don't have the worry about where your going to be and making more friends, or even losing the friends you currently have. You get to just finally feel safe at home. I was surprised by the title of the book and by the prologue of the book that I was able to even make one connection with the main character in the book. At first I felt as if I was never going to be able to even come close to understanding how this character would feel seeing as how it took place in 1964, but I'm glad I was able to.
