most regretful event takes place on the night before his sixteenth birthday. That night he tastes his first ¡§pint¡¨ and goes home drunk and hits his mother. Frank knows that if he does not leave Limerick, he would soon end up like his father. Consequently, he sails for the United States in search of a new life and a better future.

He has to admit his sin in his weekly confession.
