My Dad's Influence On Me

My dad has been the ruling figure through my whole life. He is the one who has set down the rules, and the one who has enforced them. Of course my mother has also played an important role in my upbringing, but it has always been my dad who I look to for structure.
The rules and regulations put down by my dad always seemed arbitrary and unfair to me. I did not see the reasoning behind his decisions. This impasse in views led us to have a tense relationship in which there were many fights through my adolescent and high school years. It is only now, when I am so near the time of leaving our house to go to college, that I am starting to understand where my dad has been coming from.

foggy the previous night, and by the morning the fog had greatly thickened. Before leaving for work my dad reminded me to ask my mom to take me to school. I thought, “I’ve been driving for a few months, I can handle it.” So I proceeded to drive to school. The fog was so thick that I could not see more than a few feet ahead of me. Out of no where I saw a little dog appear in front of my car. There was no way I could avoid hitting it so I swerved to the right and hit the side of the dog. I was so shaken up that I could not even get out of my car to see if the dog was okay. Finally after about 10 minutes I got out of my car and looked for the dog. It was in the middle of the street, quivering and covered with blood. I ran over to it, and I saw it pant its last breaths. I could not believe that I had caused such a painful death for such an innocent animal, all because of my defiance towards my father.
