There are few similarities and many differences between the Disney film “Hercules” and the myth. The film does not follow the myth so closely. Also, the purpose of the movie is to give an understanding to younger people about the myth of Hercules. Watching the movie first instead of reading the myth could make it hard to understand the myth due to the differences between the two.

After hearing all the differences between the movie and the myth, there is still a reason behind that. Disney has recreated the myth to make it appropriate for kids of the younger age. The myth would be inappropriate for little kids because of the way Zeus acts in it, and it would also be hard to understand. Some concepts were adapted to be more understandable to modern audiences, such as the battle of good vs. evil / Heaven vs. Underworld. Disney was making the myth more of a family related movie and cleaned up more unsavory story elements, such as Hercules' birth being the result of adultery.
The challenge of watching the Disney film Hercules instead of reading the myth is you would not receive the full story of the myth.
