Oedipus confronts Creon in Oedipis the King when he hears that Creon could have put the idea of stripping the throne from Oedipus into the townspeople’s minds: “You, plotting to kill me, kill the king- I see it all, the marauding thief himself scheming to steal my crown and power!” (lines 596-598). Here Oedipus is outraged over the thought that someone else would imagine taking his power and perhaps having control over him. Creon too, states in Antigone that he is higher than the words of others when he says: “The man the city sets up in authority must be obeyed […]” (601-603). This quote reveals that whether Creon is right or not, he wants blind obedience in whatever he decides because he is king and therefore should be listened to above all else.
