“ Seeking Friendship”

A novel by John Steinbeck, Of Mice and Men, unfolds the journey of two men named George and Lennie. They arrive on a farm to work and along the way they run into many characters: Crooks, Curley's wife and Candy. In the novel the characters all show a sign of alienation and loneliness.
Despite George’s imperfections, like being overly bold and mean he has always had a soft spot for Lennie. George is very isolated from the real world because he decided to take the risk of having Lennie by his side 24/7. When George gets bothered by Lennie and he lectures him on their way to the ranch. has reached both of their lives. For instance, in the novel, George states, “Guys like us, that work on ranches, are the loneliest guys in the world. They got no family. They don’t belong no place. . . . With us it ain’t like that. We got a future. We got somebody to talk to that gives a damn about us. We don’t have to sit in no bar room blowin’ in our jack jus’ because we got no place else to go. If them other guys gets in jail they can rot for all anybody gives a damn. But not us.” George does acknowledge the loneliness and sadness but he also appreciates the relationship between him and Lennie. They only have each other and no one else. They take advantage of one another friendship because it is just both of them.
