Native Americans cherished their culture that was passed down in stories from their elders. Instead of a God, the Pimas believed in a Great Spirit that created not only them, but everything thing around them and the world they are on. The Pima story about man and earth being created is quite unique and different and can stir up some questions. What was so different about the Pimas Creation Story from the typical Adam and Eve story or “The Iroquois Creation Story”? And why wasn’t the world in their story perfect the first go round? The Great Spirit, the Pimas believed in, had help when creating the earth also. “He created white ants, and these worked and enlarged the earth; and they kept on increasing it, larger and larger, until it was big enough for him to rest on” (22).
