When Christopher Columbus opened the way to the New World, and the prospects of colonization in the Americas, the British Empire branched into the colonies and established trade routes that brought an assortment of goods from the new land.
Along with these new trade routes came a new economic power as the colonies found themselves dependent on their imperialist motherland. As the colonies discovered their new home, and battled the hardships surrounding their founding of communities, it must have been a relief to know they could depend on Britain to supply them with the goods and supplies they needed to survive.

the delicacies coming out of the Americas. Essentially the colonies and their motherland were running well oiled trading routes, although in time, these would prove not to be as beneficial to the colonies and their desire to grow.
With the "emergence of a more popular, partisan style of politics in New England (Newell, 1999)" local businesses were able to find a foothold in the colonies and change the way the colonists would trade with Britain. The mercantilist ideal believed trade should be "a one-way flow of wealth, from the margins of empire to its center," these empires of commerce incorporated Native Americans into the European economic sphere as dependents, disrupting their traditional culture and self-sufficiency (Parr, 2001).
So as colonists learnt new skills from the Native Americans, and migration lead to more skilled laborers and merchants inhabiting the colonies, towns and communities became more self-sufficient and able to compete with the international trade that ...
