From 1890’s to the 1920’s was a period of time known as the Progressive Era. This era displayed the growing “progress” in the United States government as a result of social activism and reforms. Progressives tried to expose and undercut political machines and big businesses who were on the rise. Many progressive reformers led the efforts to bring change in many aspects of life and later expanded from the local levels to the state and national levels. The Muckrakers, the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire, democratic reforms and President Theodore Roosevelt all played important roles that produced significant changes to society during this era.
