I will also compare the pros and cons of athletes leaving school early, and how the NCAA promotes the one and done vision.
The first athlete to leave school early to become a professional basketball player was Reggie Harding in 1962 and 1963 for the Detroit Pistons. Harding of course from the association's standpoint was seem to be the necessary choice fit for the team regardless of age and experience. Harding was an 1961 graduate, 7'0" and 250 lb center from Detroit Michigan Eastern High School drafted in the fourth round of the 1962 then sixth round in the1963.
