Racism In To Kill A Mockingbird

Racism is a vastly spreading disease in this world and Maycomb County has played a part in this infectious disease. It can bring misery, stress and pressure to a person's life but sometimes it can go as far as to causing death to a person. People in "to kill a Mocking bird" are reflected are a Mockingbird because of the way they act or the way they are acted against.

One of the most obvious victims of racism is Tom Robinson. From the book we can tell that Tom Robinson is a hard working African American man and is often helpful to others. In Maycomb itself racism was rife, and the case of Tom Robinson proves this. For Tom Robinson being a Negro meant that the minute Maybella asked Tom for help he was in trouble. In the time a black man was not allowed to say no to a white person, if they did it meant persecution. As soon as Tom was attacked by Maybella he could not do anything because if he was to harm Maybella in any way he would have been persecuted.
