Ray Bradbury was definitely someone who could take his various experiences, whether they be a daily activity or something that affected his life, and put them to pen and paper like a natural. Fahrenheit 451 was a breakthrough work in that, even though Bradbury was an everyday American voicing his opinion, it established a condemnation of “not only the anti-intellectualism of Nazi Germany, but more immediately America in the early 1950's - the heyday of McCarthyism” (Atkins, Fahrenheit 451).

Because of what McCarthyism had cost many brilliant writers of his time, Bradbury used Fahrenheit 451 as his vehicle to protest. He felt the need to protest what he believed to be the suppression of editors all over the country who, through their strict control of their printing privileges, impaired a lot of the genuine creativity and originality that many new and upcoming writers had invested into their works.
