Romeo and Juliet: Romeo's Maturity

In the drama Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the main character, Romeo, faces many challenges that either force him to act mature or immature. Throughout the drama, Romeo is a love-sick teenager who will do anything to find love. He is extremely impulsive, meaning he doesn’t think before his actions, and is also very melodramatic. Romeo continuously runs away from his problems, lacks patience, and falls into love too quickly and easily. Therefore, Romeo fails to mature throughout his experience and he continues to be adolescent.
Throughout the story, it’s clear how Romeo can be very impulsive. He doesn’t think thoroughly about the future consequences. Instead, Romeo just reacts. ...

Towards the beginning of the drama, Romeo attends a Capulet party, where he is not welcomed, only to try to redeem himself to Rosaline. Rosaline is a girl who rejected Romeo in the past since she wasn’t interested in getting married. He was head over heels in love with her and was positive that he would never be able to get over her. At the party, Romeo sees Juliet for the first time. He instantly falls in love with her because of her beauty, and it was as if he completely forgot about Rosaline. This clearly shows Romeo falls in and out of love too quickly. If his feelings were true for Rosaline, he wouldn’t have been able to get over her that quickly just by the sight of another girl. Romeo falls in and out of love to quickly which illustrates his immaturity perfectly.
