As you walk the streets of Rome, it quickly becomes apparent that it is not your ordinary city. Amid the hustle and bustle of the everyday, business-centered capital, you find yourself in a virtual time warp. On your right may be your average, run-of-the-mill skyscraper, but on your left, there is a barely standing, centuries old, crumbling structure. Rome’s Colosseum is probably the most remarkable and memorable of those ancient reminders of our predecessors.
Upon approaching the Colosseum, one feels dwarfed by the great and powerful edifice that stands before them. Its form is crumbling, weathered, and looks as though it is caught halfway between the present, and an era that has long ...

It has also greatly suffered from earthquakes and time has taken quite a toll as well. It looks nothing like it did upon its construction, it is only a mere shadow of its former self.
Then, as you enter the Colosseum, there is an entirely different spectacle to behold. Travelers from far and wide are walking around with their mouths agape hardly able to believe the sight that they are witnessing. There is no longer a floor making up what was its center battle ring, just a deep chasm separated by various walls giving it a maze-like appearance. It looks as though if you were to enter, you would never find your way out. The stands seem to extend for miles along the periphery of the building.
