Inch by inch, stroke by stroke, every next one being harder and harder, the motto I follow every time I step into that boat. Every day I practice, pushing my body to the limits just to see improvements. My coach told me in my freshman year "Championships are won at practice, practice like champions", but I never fully understood that until the buzzer went off. One of the biggest races of my rowing career sat right in front of me. I waited and waited and it seemed like the race is never going to start. The nervousness in my stomach builds. Then I hear the count down 3, 2, 1, Attention! , Go!!

this time only 5[th] place, we didn't qualify for nationals. Three seconds, three lousy seconds that we didn't push ourselves hard enough. Because of that we missed our chance at nationals.

Sunday morning, 85 degrees, light headwind, we sit at the start ready to go. We started the race strong and pull open a lead, but then we started to fall apart. We started falling behind, so I tell them to pull harder and go faster, but I realized they weren't enjoying the race. We were pushed so hard that I got caught up in it and lost the fun part about the sport. I got so focused on the motto and the advice from my coach that I forgot the rules to the race. Number 1: team first, there are no stars on the team. Number 2: have fun, don't get tense, and enjoy rowing. Number 3: row well and prosper, row hard and have a good time doing it.
