Section 1. Company Information

The company that this safety and health program is for is an industrial laundry service named Karl's Kleaners. This laundromat specializes in hospital laundry meaning they deal with dirty, soiled, infected bed sheets from sick patients, as well as operating clothes and scrubs for doctors and surgeons. It is a small business, owned by Karl Violette and he has 20 employees. While a normal laundromat might not be a very dangerous environment, Karl's' is very different because of the materials that are sent here to be cleaned. All employees who sort the laundry before it is washed are exposed to the most hazardous environments in the building. They are constantly faced with laundry that could have needles and other objects that could potentially poke them and potentially inject them. For this reason, all employees are provided with Kevlar lined gloves that are cut resistant.

For this reason, every employee working in the dirty laundry room (any employees sorting laundry) with soiled laundry must adhere to the PPE and First Aid sections of this standard. Employees are required to thoroughly wash hands every time gloves come off or they leave the dirty laundry room.


Employees are required to wear respiratory protection, a simple mask that covers the mouth and nose is sufficient to protect from air born pathogens potentially present in the laundry.
